AUSTIN, Texas Nov. 15, 2018 – KUROS will release a new mobile app next year that will allow women in developing countries the ability to report the location of a sexual assault anonymously without the fear of being harassed.
KUROS is a social impact company that provides pepper spray to women who lack the resources for protection against sexual assault. Looking at countries such as India, El Salvador, Philippines, South Africa and others with high rates of sexual assault, KUROS assists in physically stopping attacks against women by providing free pepper spray for protection. KUROS is launching a mobile-based platform that allows women to report an attack using GPS software.
“I went backpacking across India when I was traveling and I learned a lot about what these women are going through it’s like man we got to do something here,” said KUROS founder, Kuro Tawil, of Austin. “Like if your back’s against the wall you’re going to either be killed by your rapists or going to be honor killed by your family – the police aren’t gonna do nothing – you might as well try to fight.”
The mobile app will protect the identity of the victims and provide assistive resources. These resources will be provided with the help of local partners familiar with the available assistance in the area. KUROS will make sure the app runs with the most security in order to protect sensitive data so it cannot be used against the victim as well. With the data collected from reports, it will be able to locate places with the most crime in order to warn others of these hotspots.
